direct和directly有时可以互相换用，在实际运用中,两者在意思上和用法上还是有一定的区别的。
Direct意思是：
1.“径直(inastraightline)”,如WeflewdirecttoParis.我们直飞巴黎。
2.“不通过中间人直接找某人（skipover intermediaries）”,如Hewentdirecttothepresident.(他直接去找董事长)。
Directly除了表达直接的意思外，可用来表示：
1.“一会儿”，“马上”，“不久”：
Directlyafter,theyresumedthejourney.（之后不久他们又继续赶路。）
2.有时还用作连词，表示“一……就”。如：
DirectlyIwalkedinthedoorIsmeltsmoke.我一进门就闻到烟味。
在形容词或其他副词前，通常使用directly,如：Thelighthousewasdirectlyoppositetheisland.（灯塔正对着小岛）。
在绝大多数情况下，人们使用directly：
1.Theneedleonthecompassispointingdirectlynorth.（指南针上的指针正直接对着北方。）
2.Youwilldamageyoureyesifyoulookdirectlyatthesun.（直接看着太阳会伤害你的眼睛。）
3.Therecessionleddirectlytoamajordepression.(经济衰退直接导致了大潇条。)
4.Theyhadtoleavedirectly.(他们不得不马上离开。)
