consist是不及物动词，得加介词用consistof，例如theunitedkingdomconsistsofgreatbritainandnorthernireland.
compose既是及物动词也是不及物动词，作为构成的意思的时候是及物动词，而且要用被动语态becomposedof,例如wateriscomposedofhydrogenandoxygen.另外compose还有创作的意思，是作为不及物动词使用的，例如hewascomposingatthepianoattheageofseven.
constitute是及物动词，不需要加介词of，例如twelvemonthsconstituteoneyear.而且constitute一般多用于机构，组织的构成
